The Silver Tress is a hair publication for women in their forties, fifties and beyond.
We started it because most hair advice aimed at this age group is written as damage control —
how to look younger, how to hide it, how to fix yourself. That is not a useful way to think
about hair, and it is not how the women we know talk about theirs.
What we believe
Going silver is an aesthetic decision, not a decline. A shorter cut is a choice, not a
surrender. Thinning hair is a real problem that deserves real answers rather than reassurance.
We write accordingly.
What we cover
- Going Grey & Over 50 — the decision, the grow-out, and what comes after
- Hair Thinning & Growth — what the evidence supports and what is being oversold
- Hair Colour — balayage, highlights, correction, and the theory underneath
- Haircuts & Styles — shape, and why a cut falls the way it does
- Styling How-Tos — technique you can actually repeat at home
- Hair & Scalp Health — the conditions worth seeing someone about
How we work
Each subject belongs to one desk, with its own byline, so nobody writes outside their remit.
We separate what is settled from what is plausible but thin, and we say which is which inside
the piece. If something takes fourteen months, we say fourteen months.
We also use AI to assist our research and drafting, and we think you are entitled to know
that plainly rather than find it out. Our Editorial & AI Policy
sets out exactly how articles are made and reviewed.
